This afternoon, I had the opportunity to attend the weekly meeting of VANDU, which stands for Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users. I was warmly welcomed by the community, and their stories, challenges, and voices moved me deeply. It was the first time I had ever sat with drug users, who are often marginalized and disadvantaged.
In the Bible, Jesus shared meals with people misunderstood, rejected, excluded, abandoned, and attacked by society. By dining with “sinners,” the marginalized, and the disadvantaged, Jesus showed compassion and love towards those often overlooked. This act of kindness and inclusion inspires us to help and support those who need it.
