I joined the Vancouver Pride Walk this morning with PFLAG. PFLAG provides support for all family members and friends, working to create an environment of understanding so our gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender children can live with dignity and respect. I met many new friends and offered priestly support to them. The group leader publicly appreciated my presence and mentioned that in his twenty-five years of participating in the walk, it was the first time he had seen a religious presence there. I felt encouraged and grateful for his comments, but I also believe that the faith leader and the group have more work to do in reaching out to people.
