This afternoon, I met with Zāsomeone who reached out through the website with a desire to talk about Christianity, Genesis, and the deeper questions stirring within. Queer, curious, and courageous, Z was searching for comfort, acceptance, and affirmation from the church.
Z shared a journey marked by exploration of gender identity and sexual orientation, a longing to be seen and embraced by faith communities, and a deep wrestling with Scripture and tradition. Z hoped to find space within the story of Godānot just for tolerance, but for love. Not just for silence, but for affirmation.
We talked about grace, belonging, and the possibility of a faith that affirms rather than excludes. Zās questions were honest and searching, rooted in a desire to reconcile identity with belief, and to find a spiritual home that welcomes all of who Z is.
Zās bravery stood out. To show up, ask hard questions, and risk vulnerability in a space that hasnāt always been safeāthat takes courage. The church must do better. We must become places where people like Z donāt have to wonder if they belong. Where stories like Zās are not just welcomed, but honored.
This afternoon was a sacred moment. A reminder that theology is no just about doctrineāitās about people. Itās about love. Itās about listening deeply and responding with compassion.
To Z: thank you for trusting me with your story. You are seen. You are loved. And your journey matters.
If you find yourself searchingāwondering where you fit, longing for a space to ask questions and be heardāplease know youāre not alone. Reach out. Thereās room for your story here.
